Mondrian Cutie

I'm off to SFMoMA this afternoon and pondering if I should get a slice of my fave cute dessert there: the Mondrian cake. Make to look like the iconic "Composition in Red, Blue and Yellow" these squares of different cakes are sliced and held together with yummy frosting. Art or dessert? C'mon, you know the answer! Zebra Cutie

After reading about all those beautiful exotic animals that were kept by a man in Ohio, I felt it proper to pay homage to one of the cutest: the zebra! Besides its adorable stripes, the zebra always seems to have something going on behind his eyes. I used to draw often at the zoo, and the zebra's always knew that when the sketchpad came out to stand still for me. Hello There Cuties!!! xxxo

Hump Day Cuties

It's Hump Day (as we used to giggle about in junior high) and here's another adorable image sent to us by Joseph in SF. Today we have a scene that is near and dear to my heart: a cat napping atop a dogs back. Why near and dear? I got a notice from an online shopping site (Fab.com) about their tokidoki sale so of course I had to check it out. Some weeks Friday isn't soon enough... this is one of them! I feel like Snow White singing a song with a birdie friend now that 5 o' clock is here. Ok, a kawaii Snow White. I was talking with someone I work with about how today is kinda weird... people are driving freaky, those I chat with are off and overall there's something in the air. On a day like today, there's only one answer: take me away to Cutie-ville! This theme park is from our friends at Sanrio and wow, just looking at it makes me happy already. Otter You Cutie!

Sorry for the last posting today Cuties... how dare work get in the way of cute?!! Today's posting of a mommy and her baby otter (via the San Diego Reader newspaper) is dedicated to my Mommy. Barbie the tokidoki Cutie

This weekend Doug and I went into a fave teenage store of mine called Aaahs (in the Valley, of course). And look who was there to greet us: tokidoki Barbie!!! Check out that pink mini, leopard leggings & black Flashdance top with a tokidoki skull heart and bones she's rocking. This fashionista also has tattoos (my how Barbie has changed) and a pink bob to boot. With her cactus friend, Bastardino, by her side, Barbie’s totally beyond Hello There Cutie! xxxo

Columbus Day Cuties

Happy Columbus Day (aka no mail and school today!). These children are in their costumed finery for a Columbus Day Parade in the 1920s. I didn't know that Uncle Sam was on the Nina, Pinta or Santa Maria (how did I remember those?) but one thing I do know for a fact is this: these kids are adorable!!! Hello There Cuties! xxxo

Encino Cutie

Am going to be down in the Valley this weekend visiting both my family and fellow cutie Doug. In looking for the perfect image, I pondered before arriving on this one: me 3 days old, held by my Grandma Helen while my two brothers check me out. Rumor has it they were disappointed I wasn't a boy but hey, I don't throw like a girl!!! xxxo

Charuca Kawaii Cuties

Looks like one of our fave Hello There Cutie artists has a new book out! The Spaniard Charuca (who we've written of here and here) has just had his work published by Harper Collins in a book called "I Love Kawaii." I haven't been able to see the inside yet but based upon the cover and his adorable work, we already send out a big Hello There Cutie to it!!! xxxo

Wino Cuties

Wine isn't necessarily cute but sometimes the labels can be... and here's a great example! This little winery out of Canada is doing labels with illustrations that tell a story and make you smile. Uni is a Cutie

Todays cutie is Uni the unicorn from the 1980's Saturday morning cartoon Dungeons and Dragons. The show was based on the role playing game and was pretty violent for a morning show. Luckily, for cute relief, there was Uni, a baby unicorn that was the pet of a kid named Bobby. Uni had the ability to speak, though her words were not understandable to our mere mortal ears. It's ok Uni, you're still a Hello There Cutie!!! xxxo

Mosquito Proof Kitty Cutie

When I was in Puerto Rico last winter, we went swimming in bioluminescent water (top 10 cool experience). As the spot we swam is called Mosquito Bay, it was recommended we wear mosquito bracelets. I of course lost mine (bad eco-warrior!) but I wonder if I had be wearing one one those above, my experience might have been different. After all, how could I ever lose something so adorable? And yes, those really are mosquito proof bracelets! Hello There Cutie!!! xxxo

Keepon Cutie

In reading BusinessWeek recently (hey, I'm diverse!) I was fascinated to read about this 10" cutie called My Keepon. Originally designed to help children with autism, this little robot is readying for his debut at Toys R Us this holiday season. My Keepon will listen to music then run the tempo through an algorithm that introduces randomization. Country song? Watch My Keepon sashay to the beat. Play the same song again, and My Keepon will do a different dance, while still matching the rhythm and tempo. Yes, he's our new disco king and adorable so Hello There Cutie!!! xxxo

L' Shana Tova Cuties!

This little gal (and her pup) are from an Israeli 1960's greeting card for Jewish New Year (ie Rosh Hashanah), which begins tonite. The rams horn (shofar) is blown to welcome in the holiday, and apples dipped in honey are eaten to celebrate a sweet new year. I don't think riding a tricycle is traditional for this holiday but hey, L' Shana Tova (aka Happy New Year) and Hello There Cuties!!! xxxo

Swampy the Cutie

The cutie featured today is Swampy the alligator, who stars in an app for kids from Disney. What makes Swampy so noteworthy (besides his cuteness of course!) is that Disney is hoping that he will make it to the big screen (usually the movie is spun off of an app or game, not the other way around). I haven't been able to find out what adventures Swampy has but it really doesn't matter: with his rubber ducky, sweet smile and back scrubber we gotta shout out Hello There Cutie!!! xxxo

Bill Cunningham is a Cutie

I recently watched a documentary about the iconic New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham and I must admit: I was taken by him! 80 plus years old riding his bike around NY to take street photos of fashion for the Times (as well as the swells of society), I found him to be fascinating. Anna Wintour from Vogue speaks of Bill spotting trends well before she and her editors, and with that red Schwinn and adorable French street sweepers jacket... well, he is totally Hello There Cutie!!! xxxo
