Charuca Kawaii Cuties

Looks like one of our fave Hello There Cutie artists has a new book out! The Spaniard Charuca (who we've written of here and here) has just had his work published by Harper Collins in a book called "I Love Kawaii." I haven't been able to see the inside yet but based upon the cover and his adorable work, we already send out a big Hello There Cutie to it!!! xxxo

Older and Wiser Cutie

Another year older... another year wiser... This owl watercolor (done on an old book page) attracted me for two reasons. First, the old saying. Second, it's wearing a crown so spoke to my inner (and sometimes outer) princess who is now older/wiser/etc. Ok, third (real) reason: it's really cute! Hello There Cutie xxxo

13 Word Cuties

Tonight my sis-tah Deb and I are going to hear the artist Maira Kalman speak with Lemony Snicket. They have a book in that Snicket curates 13 of the most essential words of all time — Bird, Despondent, Cake, Dog, Busy, Convertible, Goat, Hat, Haberdashery, Scarlet, Baby, Panache and Mezzo-Soprano — and pairs each with original illustrations in Kalman’s signature simple-loveliness style. Fun, huh Cuties? xxxo

The Ultimate Cutie

This is my first Mother's Day without Mom.... and as an orphan. Adelyne was truly the ultimate Cutie (as evidenced by this child bride photo of her!) and wrote me the most amazing notes throughout the years that I am compiling into a wee book. She is still in the hearts of many with much love and respect. ps I love you Mommy xxxo

"Told Under The Christmas Tree" is a book from the 1940s that features Santa telling his woodland friends "stories from around the world." The deer looks particularly interested in the book... perhaps as a snack? xxxo

Cute and smart

The Witch Next Door is a super cute book that Scholastic published in the early 1970s that teaches kids about subjects like prejudice and tolerance. It's somehow very timely once again.

A Friend Is...

... Someone Who Likes You. That was the name of my favorite book as a little girl. It was written Joan Walsh Anglund, and explored all aspects of friendship. Illustrated in three-color and black-and-white, the pictures alone kept me transfixed for hours. And yes, I still have that same tattered and worn copy on my shelf. xxxo
