Bugs + Sushi = Cute

Artist Lisa Wood’s amazing dioramas displaying real insects in re-creations of human life are changing my mind about all bugs being gross. These scenes use props both natural (leaves, pinecones) and artificial (tiny books, microscopes, and chess sets). On her Flickr you'll find wasps and butterflies holding tea parties, a tarantula delivering packages and, as seen above, some icky ones enjoying their sushi supper. Who woulda thought that creepy crawlers could on be Hello There Cutie???   xxxo

Playground Cutie

I might be seeing my little friend Anouk tonite and whenever I do, my mind goes straight to playing. This playground is La Laguna Playground in San Gabriel so a bit far to drive, darnit! What makes this p-ground so cool is that instead of traditional equipment, it's populated by 14 concrete monster sculptures instead. Built in a sand-filled lagoon in 1965, it was designed by Mexican artist Benjamin Dominguez and saved from demolition in 2006. I read all about the La Laguna here, and it's a fascinating read if you have a chance. Hello There Cutie!   xxxo

Charuca Kawaii Cuties

Looks like one of our fave Hello There Cutie artists has a new book out! The Spaniard Charuca (who we've written of here and here) has just had his work published by Harper Collins in a book called "I Love Kawaii." I haven't been able to see the inside yet but based upon the cover and his adorable work, we already send out a big Hello There Cutie to it!!! xxxo

Cutie Cupcake Art

Ed Bing Lee is a San Francisco artist that made these adorable knitted cupcakes. I had no idea who he was but figured he must be a cool young hipster to come up with these whimsical pieces; turns out Ed's 78 years old! Talk about both an inspiration and great role model to all artists... And a big Hello There Cutie keep on making such wonderful pieces of art to Ed!!! xxxo

please visit this website to both see a video about the artist and more of his work

Cutie Art Project

Maps are cool. As are envelopes with pretty liners... put the two together and voila! The artist Beste Miray likes to make the everyday into art, and here's a great example. Go to this website, enter your address + message, print out and you too have made a custom envelope liner. Cool and v. Cutie indeed. xxxo

Day of the Dead Cutie

Today is Day of the Dead, and this Cutie take on the art for it is by the Canadian illustrator Christina Patterson. Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) is a gathering to pray for/remember friends and family members who are no longer with us in parades, at shrines or even alone. If there is a celebration in your town, I highly recommend going. xxxo

Katie is Kutie

Katie is a painting by local Silver Lake artist Antonio Barbara, or as we like to call him "Uncle Tony." This wonderful piece is inspired and named after a dear friend of the artist and captures the timeless cuteness of the lovely young lady.
