Bagpuss is a Cutie

I awoke this morning to an email telling me about a show I didn't have growing up in the US: Bagpuss the Mouse Mill. Hippie and naively sweet, Bagpuss is a combination of illustration, sepia photos and stop motion photography seamlessly woven together. The title character is "an old, saggy cloth cat, baggy, and a bit loose at the seams" and his owner Emily, a girl who owns a shop of lost & found objects. You are forewarned: Bagpuss is addictive, especially on a rainy Friday morning. Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend Cuties!!! xxxo

Harry is a Cutie

Australian artist Rotae Lupin has reimagined the characters of Harry Potter as Emo-esque hipsters in a fabulous series of drawings. My fave is Harry (seen above) with his quote of "dying is so mainstream" and skinny jeans tucked into his trainers. As all who know me are aware, I have a soft spot for this series of books, so a big Hello There Cutie to this new (and groovier) Mr. P. and friends. xxxo

Hermes Cuties

I was reading my daily Rachel Zoe e-news and she talked about Hermes bracelets being awesome. Altho a bit outa my comfort zone price-wise, I wanted to look at them anyway so went to the website and wham! There are fabulous illustrations interacting with all of the products throughout. These bracelet cuties were among my faves... whatcha think Cuties??? xxxo

Trader Vic's Cuties

As you might have guessed, my aesthetic is rather eclectic: here's another example! I've never smoked cigarettes (and never will, nor should you my dearest Cuties)... yet I have a collection of Trader Vic's ashtrays from the 1950s. Vic's was a popular Polynesian themed restaurant (history can be found here) that allowed smoking in both the lounge (home of the Mai Tai) & dining rooms, utilizing these adorable ashtrays. I know of six designs, all very un-pc and all very Hello There Cutie!!! (I own the one above) xxxo

13 Word Cuties

Tonight my sis-tah Deb and I are going to hear the artist Maira Kalman speak with Lemony Snicket. They have a book in that Snicket curates 13 of the most essential words of all time — Bird, Despondent, Cake, Dog, Busy, Convertible, Goat, Hat, Haberdashery, Scarlet, Baby, Panache and Mezzo-Soprano — and pairs each with original illustrations in Kalman’s signature simple-loveliness style. Fun, huh Cuties? xxxo

Healthy Cuties

Today I've got boot camp, and I sure wish I could wear something like the cutie in yellow is. Imagine my trainer's surprise when I'd show up in a yellow pinafore instead of workout gear... This book was published in 1940 and is filled with tips on making sure your child is healthy (and mentally sound) before and after starting school. What about after boot(ie) camp Cuties? xxxo

Olga's a Cutie

A friend of mine is Norwegian, and I was looking to find her a silly present when I happened upon this book. Olga of Norway is from 1936 and is a children's book about a wee lass who eats fladbrod and visits fjords. And did I mention that Olga is a Cutie supreme? (look at her race down that slope) Hello There Cutie! xxxo

Suntory Cuties

What is this? A good question! These cuties are from a Suntory beverage (I have no idea what) and are rather opposite. The smiley guy on the front (with a leaf accent) seems to welcome my partaking of his bevvie, whereas his friend on the twist-top is sad. Don't worry cuties: you're too cute to drink!!! xxxo

Killer Bunnies Are Cuties

The wonderfully illustrated booklet above was a high school science project by a friend of mine, Valentina Alexander. I truly appreciate both the drawing style and unconventionally cute subject matter (aka bunnies end up happily ever after!), and hope that V. scored an "A+." Hello There Cutie Killer Bunnies!!! xxxo

Blowaway Hat is Cute!

The Blowaway Hat is a book from 1946 with adorable illustrations by Dellwyn Cunningham. The story is this: David's mother's new hat with the buttercups and daisies and red roses blows off and goes flying through town. With great pictures and a fun-filled plot, sounds like a book all cuties should peruse. xxxo

This clothing pattern cover from the 1940s stands out for both the fabulous illustrations and cute factor! Sporty yet chic, these boys are showing grown up style in their poses, but still boyish charm with their expressions. Hello There Cuties!!! xxxo

Cutie Wreath

When wandering my neighborhood, I've noticed alot of beautiful wreaths... lovely, tasteful but not cute! I wish I had hung this adorable Hello Kitty wreath on my front door to shake things up a bit. With the full-size winter ensembled Kitty, simple illustrations and fuzzy center, this would do any 'hood proud. Hello There Cutie!!! xxxo

Vintage Hanukkah Cuties

I Know I Can Cute

Sometimes, when times are tough, it's good to have a positive message to make you smile. Between a cute little train carrying toys (to the good boys and girls... adorably illustrated!) and the reaffirming message of "I know I can", this classic Little Golden Book truly should be on everyone's bookshelf.
