Carioca the Carnivale Cutie

José Carioca is a much-loved Disney character, a dapper Brazilian parrot from Rio de Janeiro. José was created in 1942 for the movie Saludos Amigos as a Latin American friend of Donald Duck. In Brazil he's known as Zé Carioca and still appears in regularly published comic books.

B-day Cutie

In honour of the last day of my b-day month of celebrating, this card from the 60's seemed appropriate. Between the adorable pirate child, his silly singing parrot friend, happy jolly roger and splashy waves, what a perf way to say "Ahoy there cuties!" xxxo

Cute But Weird...

A b-day book I was given features the art of Alba Ballard, a 1960s Long Island housewife who thought it was cute to dress up her pet parrots in costumes and photograph them. The images are cute yet disturbing... and I can't stop looking at this book; Amelie, my pet bunny, isn't too happy about it. I wonder why??? xxxo
