The word "How" (haau) is used common as a greeting, perhaps inaccurately, by some Native Americans. The Oxford English Dictionary claims that the word was originally used by missionary Jean de Brébeuf to indicate an "sign of approval" and was used by the Huron or Wyandot tribes.
