Today is Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras in French) which in New Orleans is an excuse to party! Fat Tuesday is also the day before Ash Wednesday, ie the first day of Lent. It gets its name from the custom of marking the day with feasting before the fasting for Lent begins.
