Sugar and Spike was a 98-issue cute comic book series published by DC Comics from 1956 through the early 1970s. It was written and drawn by Sheldon Mayer. In 1992,
Sugar and Spike #99 was published as part of the
DC Comics Silver Age Classics series featuring two previously unpublished stories by Mayer. Mayer had an agreement with DC that only he could write
Sugar and Spike. However, they have occasionally made cameo appearances in other comic books, as theme park characters in
Justice League Spectacular #1, in
Wonder Woman (second series) #113, and as teenagers on the cover of
Legionnaires #43. They were also spotted in the Alex Ross graphic novel
Kingdom Come and most recently in
Batman: The Brave and the Bold #4.
